A Vision for Episcopal Church Women

Our vision for all women of the Episcopal Church is that we become a vibrant blend of all ages, coming together as a peacemaking, healing part of the Church. We aspire to be a God spark* – shining and sharing the love of Christ.

*The core self, the part of us made in God’s image, spirit and soul.
From The Triennial Meeting 2003

Who is an Episcopal Church Woman?

Quite simply, all women who choose to be part of the Episcopal Church are Episcopal Church Women.  Episcopal Church Women are very different now than when a group of women began organizing in 1871.  However, the goal of an organization of women who encouraged
                        *empowerment
                        *spiritual growth
                        *ministry
                        *social responsibility
                        *involvement in caring for others
through the strength of Christ has never changed.  Episcopal Church Women now are

housewives – mothers - doctors  - lawyers – priests
deacons - engineers – biologists – teachers - nurses
psychologists - volunteers

dedicated Christians from all walks of life and professions.  Episcopal Church Women are all ages—no longer only the “blue hairs with prune cake and lace doilies”—all though the wisdom and experience of our most elderly generations is sorely needed as we all grow.  Gloria Cale, a dedicated ECW member in San Antonio, Texas once said, “If you need something done in the church, you go to the women.”
This is still true.  The face of ECW has changed, the spirit of ECW—that dynamic awareness of doing what needs to be done has not changed.

Verna Dozier, theologian and Biblical scholar, said, “Don’t tell me what you believe; tell me what difference it makes that you believe.”
